SIMON BLAKEY MARATHON
London April 2009 – Running for Friends and Family
The Urology Foundation is extremely grateful to Simon Blakey who used
his place in the 2009 London Marathon ballot to run his first ever
marathon to raise money for the Foundation, a charity that Simon says
is very close to his heart. Simon explains: ‘The inspiration for
supporting the Foundation comes from a close friend who has suffered
from polycystic kidney failure, my wonderful father, who had a very
narrow escape from prostate cancer, and two close friends in their
30s who’ve recently recovered from testicular cancer.’
Simon overcame some injury problems to manage a very respectable 4 hours 47 minutes to complete the race and his fundraising target of £3,000 has been spectacularly overtaken, with donations so far exceeding £8,000! The Foundation extends a huge ‘thank you’ to Simon’s friends and supporters for their generosity and of course to Simon for a truly fantastic achievement.
If you would like to add to this impressive total, Simon’s justgiving.com website is still accepting donations.
