Fundraising & Donations
Get Involved
There are a number of ways you can help The Foundation to achieve better outcomes for patients.
Why not volunteer to take part in or organise fundraising events, such as:
- If you're a keen cyclist, you can join the TUF Bike Challenge from Argentina to Chile in 2012 and help raise sponsorship for the cause.
- Sponsored walks, runs or marathons are popular means of raising money. For the particularly talkative, sponsored silences may also be effective!
- Coffee mornings, jumble sales, donating proceeds from eBay sales, etc
- Quiz nights, concerts, dinners or auctions are also a tried and tested way of raising money.
The key is to not be daunted by the size and scale of the event and to assume that it has to be big to succeed. Several smaller events such as quiz nights, sponsored walks or raffles are easier to organise and therefore just as worthwhile and effective as a Gala dinner or Ball.
Why donate?
The Urology Foundation is reliant on the kindness of individuals, companies and trusts who donate money to enable us to carry out our work in improving the diagnosis, treatment and management of urological disease through the development and support of medical education, and sponsorship of scientific research into the cause and treatment of urological diseases.
There are a number of ways that you can donate funding to The Foundation. But please remember to maximise any donation by completing a Gift Aid Declaration Form.

Gift Aid
Gift Aid does exactly what it says by giving additional money to The Foundation and is an important additional source of funding for our work. Gift Aid is tax relief on money donated to UK charities. UK charities are entitled to 25% tax reclaim from the Inland Revenue on every £1 donated by UK taxpayers.
Please note that tax can only be reclaimed on donations made by individuals who pay UK income or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount reclaimed on their donations in the current tax year.
If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can also claim back the difference between the higher rates of tax at 40 or 50 per cent and the basic rate of tax at 20 per cent on the total value of your gross donation.
Ways to donate
There are several ways you can help us. You can make a donation (please don't forget to complete a Gift Aid form if you are eligible), through getting involved in a fundraising event or challenge or why not consider making a Legacy? For more details of these options please see below.

Legacies
In recent years, the Foundation has received some valuable support from legacies which we have invested in training and research. As a result, we are now developing plans to highlight this form of giving to our supporters and hope that in future more people will want to remember our work in their Will.
When making a Will your first priority is obviously to provide for your family and friends but many people also take the opportunity to leave money for a charity or cause that has particular meaning to them.
Whilst we would recommend that anyone making a Will should consult a solicitor the following is a standard wording which can be incorporated into a Will
Legacies
"I give to The Urology Foundation for the general purposes thereof free of all death duties the sum of £.......... and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer for the time being of the said Foundation shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors/Trustees who shall not be required to see to the application thereof".
November - National Make a Will Month
What's stopping so many of us from making a will?
Have you got round to making a will yet? If you have, you're in the minority, because around 60% of us don't have one. Will a national month dedicated to wills give us the inspiration we so desperately need?
This month is National Make a Will Month.
The figures speak for themselves - around 40% of people have written a will, with only 11% of single folk doing so. Clearly, many of us still need a nudge in the right direction.
Finding the right will service
'Making a will' has been one of those must-do-but-never-quite-get-around-to items that we all think about for years. Part of the problem for many people is knowing where to start. How do you find a service you trust to help you draw it up properly?
What's Make a Will Month about?
Will Aid uses National Make a Will Month to tempt us will-less 60% with the idea of a making a will. The argument is that, if its cost putting you off doing your will, there's no excuse during November.
Instead of charging their usual fee, Will Aid solicitors suggest you make a donation that will be passed on to charity. So, as long as you're prepared for them to ask for a donation (£75 for a single will or £110 for a pair of mirror wills) it seems like a win-win situation.
So, if you don't want a long-lost (and not-missed) cousin looting your lot - or worse, the state getting hold of it, isn't now the perfect month to make the effort?
If you have already made a Will, you can add a gift to charity by drawing up a codicil (this is a simple addition to your Will). If you do decide to mention us in your Will, please remember to include our registered charity number, 1128683, to ensure that the money goes to the correct organisation.
