About BUF
The British Urological Foundation (BUF) supports research and
innovation in the British Isles. Established in 1994 by the British
Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and the British Journal of
Urology, BUF is a registered charity that relies on donations from
individuals, as well as pharmaceutical and urological equipment
companies, to help fund much-needed research into the prevention
and treatment of urological disease.
Mission Statement:
The aim of the British Urological Foundation is to improve the
management of urological disease through the development and
support of medical education and sponsorship of research.
More research into the causes of urological disease and research into the development of new
treatments are urgently needed. BUF uses its funds to raise the standard of research in Britain by
funding full-time research posts in the British Isles. It also organises overseas clinical visits that
enable British urologists to observe practice in centres of excellence throughout the world, thus
improving the management of patients with urological disease. In addition the Foundation sponsors a
high profile educational lecture by an international speaker at the annual meeting of the British
Association of Urological Surgeons.
